Hit the Ball Well from Uneven Lies

online golf lessons

Before I begin, I want to first give you the definition of the four uneven lies in golf.

Uphill Lie – The easiest of the four uneven lies. The golf ball is level with your feet but the slope is up-hill, we refer to this as an uphill lie.

Downhill Lie
– A ball that is level to your feet but the slope is down hill, probably the second most difficult shot in golf.

Ball Below Feet
– The most difficult shot in golf is when the ball is below your feet.

Ball Above Feet
– The fourth uneven lie is when the ball is above your feet.

Don’t get confused between an uphill lie, and when the golf ball is simply above your feet. These are 2 different lies, and each should be addressed separately. Also, don’t get mixed up with the downhill lie, and the ball being below your feet. Again, these are two different lies.

Uphill Lie

  1. Let’s start with the easiest shot in golf, the up-hill lie. If you struggle with this shot, you probably swing the golf club to vertical into the ground and hit a fat shot. Before you prepare for an uphill lie, you need to think of a few important items first. Makes sure you take a less lofted club. When you have an uphill lie, it will make the ball go SHORTER and HIGHER.
  2. The ball will have a tendency to hook to the left, so aim a little to the right.
  3. To avoid hitting the shot fat, check your shoulder alignment and make sure they are parallel to the ground you are standing on. If you are on an uphill lie, your back shoulder should be a little lower that your leading shoulder.
  4. The golf ball should be positioned according to what club you are using, as though your on a level lie. (A bit forward for longer clubs.)
  5. You want to make sure you follow through HIGH after impact.

Downhill Lie

Now we can move on to one of the hardest shots in golf, the down hill lie. If you have a tendency to struggle with this shot, the miss hit is normally a top. Follow the steps below and you’ll see a huge change in your down hill shots.

  1. Because the ball will fly lower, you can take a more lofted club to help the ball go a little higher.
  2. The ball will have a tendency to curve to the right, aim a little to the left.
  3. If you have your shoulders at address tilted level to the down slope of your lie, this will encourage the club to swing DOWN into the ball (correct) and not up in the down swing. Thus, you will strike the bottom of the ball and not the top.
  4. Play the ball in your stance according to the club you are using (and again, a little forward for a longer club).
  5. You want to make sure you follow through LOW to the ground after impact.

Ball Below Feet

THE HARDEST SHOT IN GOLF. The dreaded, (I can’t even believe this is happening to me) BALL BELOW YOUR FEET golf shot. You have come to the right place, below is the answer.

  1. When the golf ball is below your feet, you have the tendency to top it to the right, whiff the ball, or shank it.
  2. The address is the absolute most important part of this shot. Bend the knees and bend WAY over at address. You ALMOST can’t bend TOO much.
  3. The ball will have a tendency to go to the right, aim farther left.
  4. The club wants to swing up and down, NOT around. LET IT…If it feels like a lob swing, this is correct. IF you take your normal golf swing, you will whiff the ball completely.

Ball Above Feet

Now we are back to an easy shot, the ball above our feet. If you follow the steps below, you will not hit the ground behind the ball anymore, and the ball above your feet will become your absolute favorite shot in golf

  1. If you struggle with hitting the ball fat in these shots, make sure you are standing taller than your normal stance.
  2. The ball will have a tendency to fly to the left, aim a little farther to the right.
  3. DO NOT BEND YOUR KNEES
  4. This is the main point, the golf club wants to swing more AROUND your body, let it…DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MAKE A NORMAL SWING…let the club swing around you.

Now, forget everything you knew about uneven lies and try this. I AM SURE IT WILL HELP!

Perfecting Your Golf Swing

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Most golfers will say the hardest part of their game is focus. Often overlooked in golf is the mental game. Do you have a friend that breaks 80 on every round? Why is that? Practice, they practice. What they don’t tell you, is what they practice at. They practice at mental toughness; golf has often been referred to as 10% Talent 90% mental. When overcoming that mental side of golf, do you try to change your equipment, the time at which you play, maybe even they guys you play with. Here we go, some tips that are going to help get you on your way to being a better golfer.

The tempo of golf is often a concern for golfers. You are stuck behind a slow foursome, or maybe the guys behind you are rushing you, and you feel that pressure to golf faster. Let your your tempo dictate your game! Not the tempo of the people around you. Swing tempo is important if you want consistent results in your game. How do I find MY tempo you ask? A golfer can find their tempo by doing these simple things:

SLOW DOWN!! People often think that if they can swing faster and hit the ball harder they will get results, this is not the case at all. SLOW DOWN and focus on YOUR tempo not the tempo of the game. This is true is some instances, but, for the sake of this article we will not be discussing those concepts. The tempo we are going to discuss today, is going to deal with how you approach every single shot in your game, you need to have the same back swing, contact, and follow through on every swing. How are you going to practice this TEMPO? While at the driving range your focus should only be on one club at a time. First hit 20 range balls with your driver, next hit 20 range balls with your 9 iron, Next your 3 wood and your 8 iron follow this method until you have hit every club in your bag. In your back Swing you want to make sure you are coming to the same point every time. When you contact the ball make sure you are contacting the ball at the same rate of speed with every club. If You swing hard with woods you should swing hard with irons do not let the club size dictate you tempo. You really want to be swinging all of your clubs at the same speed, you will see great improvement on how well you make contact with the ball. Follow through is the same as your back swing you need to follow through the same on every shot. How you follow through directly affect your accuracy. Working on these simple techniques will improve your mental game and when that improves so does your score.

This is a three step process after you are done at the driving range it is time to head to the chipping green. Start by working with your wedges, then move on to you short irons. You need to use every club for at least 100 chips. Start with your wedges in the deeper grass and focus not on getting in the hole but just putting the ball on the green. If you are hitting the ball with the same tempo every time, your chipping will be more accurate. Chipping is a tool to get to the green, not a tool to keep you from having to putt. Hitting a home run is great but keeping the ball in play has made many great careers. The idea is to get on the green and let your putter do the work. Now take your 8I and 9I over to the short grass and work on your bump and run. Tempo is still your main focus you are just using a club for a different shot, the tempo is still the same though. Find your tempo and stick with it!! Imagine you are still hitting that same wedge, Change the Club not the Tempo!!

Putting Putting Putting! This is so hard to understand but why? Now we have gone from the Driving range to the chipping green to the putting green. While practicing don’t worry about how far or where the ball goes work on keeping your tempo the same every time. You are never going to change your swing for a putt. The only thing about putting that changes is the distance. Start by sinking 10 putts in a row from 1ft away after you have done this, move out to 2ft, repeat until you sink 10 in a row from 10ft away. Stay focused on your tempo.

The goal for these exercises is to teach your to go through the same steps every time. You are working on your tempo, your tempo can not be affected by anything because it is yours. If you focus on the tempo you will see results!! If you want the proven results of the pros you need to create a time line in your mind (90% mental) that you will follow no matter where you are, or whom you are playing with. When your body starts to do the same thing every single time, your mind will become more focused on the task at hand.

Improve Your Game By Taking Golf Lessons Online

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Most of the time, taking golf lessons involves going to see a golf pro to get their help on improving your game. You pay whatever the trainer charges for their time and you probably learned a lot in a short span of time – but how much of this do you retain? Even with an exceptionally talented golf instructor, you probably have a hard time remembering everything that they teach you in a lesson – this is where taking golf lessons online can be helpful.

Taking some web based lessons can be a great help as you learn the game or work to improve your skills. Golf Lessons Online are like having a refresher course which you can refer to at any time so that you will not forget what you learn on the course. Even if you are not taking lessons from an expert, you can get off to a great start with online courses.

Videos

The prevalence of mobile devices like smartphones have made it easy to record or play back video anywhere you go. This is especially good news for anyone taking golf lessons online; you can take the video content from your lessons along with you to the course.

Being able to watch video golf lessons online is great, but you can also download video content for many of these lessons. This means that you can watch your lessons even while you are on the driving range or the golf course, pausing and replaying video as needed.

It is great to take your lessons on the go, but you do not need to have a portable video player to benefit from video golf lessons. You can watch the videos at home any time you need and keep your memory fresh; it also makes it easier to ensure that you maintain proper form while you practice your swing at home.

Audio Lessons

It’s important to keep in mind that golf is largely a mental game, with concentration and the ability to recall what to do in a given situation being very important. You probably won’t be able to concentrate and focus like a pro right off the bat – but when you take golf lessons online, you can take the audio lessons along with you to the course, in your car or anywhere else you go on your mp3 player.

E-Books

Taking golf lessons online also gives you access to e-books and other text material which you can access from any computer. Many people learn best when they’re able to study by reading; for these people, there are many different e-books available which provide an excellent solution.

As you attempt to become a better golfer, you will need plenty of time on the driving range and on the course – but taking golf lessons online will help you to sharpen your skills much faster and give you an edge on other players. You will notice the difference and your friends might even ask you what your secret is.Click HERE for more information.

Get Rid of the Back Golf Swing Dip

golf videos

The PurePoint Golf swing theory points you in the right direction and gives you a system of fundamentals to measure yourself against. In golf this is very important; however situations arise where you just can’t figure out why you are having certain difficulties. Whether your problem is hitting behind the ball or hitting the ball thin, sometimes we are clueless to where the problem lies.

We teach a fairly horizontal swing plane in comparison to most. Even though there are several major benefits to this version of the golf swing certain complications can arise very quickly. This tip in particular was designed to keep players from hitting behind the ball. My objective is to inform you of all areas of the golf swing, so that when certain situations arise, you can adjust accordingly. And ultimately checkpoints pre-established.

  • The player(s) back shoulder in his/her backswing dips down; meaning that the back shoulder is lowering towards the ground. This is hard to do when you don’t have lateral movement or weight shift back and away from the target, as we teach. However, its very common among players who have a horizontal swing plane. The tendency is to lower the back shoulder as your swing plane becomes more horizontal.
  • Please understand that if you dip your back shoulder in your backswing this could cause many different problems in you swing. Your timing, hand position at impact, weight shift through the golf ball, and follow-through position could all be negatively affected.

Solution

  • Fortunately there is simple solution. Go to the practice range and take a golf ball. Place the golf ball underneath your back foot (please make sure that ½ the golf ball is in the ground so that you don’t fall over). If a ball is uncomfortable use a towel or something that is at least an inch off the ground. The ball/object should be placed underneath your back heel in order to ensure that you have no weight transfer and that your back shoulder does not dip in the backswing.
  • Then simply take your normal swing. If you choose you can hit the ball or you can just take a few practice swings. First, focus on not dropping your shoulder in your backswing (keep your back shoulder up and not down). I guarantee that if you master this skill you will make solid contact with the ball on a more consistent basis.
  • This drill will force you to practice a swing with no weight shift back and away from your target and simultaneously help you with dropping your back shoulder.

Practice this drill and be aware that if you are having difficulty hitting behind the ball at any time in your round, the problem could lie in shoulder position in your backswing. To learn more go to PurePoint Golf Instruction

A Golf Fitness Coach Equals Excellent Golf

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Golf fitness coach. Have you always considered one…and if so, what scientifically were you looking for? There are several ‘ordinary fitness’ trainers trying to get a piece of the golf fitness and training market that seems to be speedily gaining exposure both on the television and inside print thanks to Tiger, Vijay and Annika.

But the first thing you require to believe when looking into hiring a golf fitness coach or program is the trainers experience inside golf.

Yes…that is high on the list of requirements. Does he/she know golf? Do they know the biomechanics of the golf swing? How about muscle function during the golf swing?

An easy test is during the initial interview or if you’re researching it online is to either ask very golf specific swing method questions; or take a look at the detail on the website. You’ll find out real quick if this person or program can improve your golf swing, game and health.

A golf fitness coach or program should incorporate strength, flexibility, endurance, body awareness, balance, stability and even a nutrition component.

It’s simple for a trainer to have a strength component…but is it specific to golf? A quick test. Take a look at a few of the exercises. Are several of them on seated machines for instance? If they are…run! This is NOT a golf fitness coach and/or program. This is considered ‘ordinary fitness’.

At present stretching. There are dozens of stretches for every citizens. But take a look at some of them. Do they even remotely look like they will gain your golf swing?

Stretches involving trunk flexibility; lower back; hamstring; and even shoulders specific to the mechanics of the swing are what you desire. Frequent stretches are better than nothing, but will delay your results. You prefer specific stretches.

Body awareness. Does some of the exercises resemble golf positions or phases of the swing? Do they look like you would be on your feet and inside your golf posture? As stated higher than, if they are seated on machines, your body will learn nothing in regards to your golf swing.

Training your body specific to golf incorporates positions almost identical to what your body would be in during several section of the golf swing.

Stability. Training your body to increase stability inside your swing can buy a little complex if you actually decide to see results. The swing happens at between 80-100 miles an hour. One of the biggest flaws of amateur golfers is moving inside their golf swing.

Moving either laterally (sliding), vertically (up and done) or equally. This is death to your golf swing. To increase your stability involves specific strength drills most trainers don’t even know about.

I may perhaps go on-and-on about the requirements of a golf fitness coach or program. It is critical you make the exact decision. I have heard horror stories of golfers working using ‘so-called’ golf fitness experts and their game getting worse. With the proper research this won’t happen to you. So definitely believe a golf fitness coach.
