Tell me what the Best Golf Irons Are?
Saturday, December 12th, 2009Want to know what Golf Club Complete Sets are the best? There are so many different styles and makes of clubs nowadays that it can be hard to know where to begin. The most important factor is not if these are the best golf iron’s on the market, but if they are the best golf iron’s for you.
You see you need to choose the club to suit your skill level and your particular preferences, if you have elbow trouble you may want to get a club with a graphite shaft and a polymer or rubber insert in the head to reduce the transmission of the impact with the ball, but other people may be horrified by that selection.
Before you choose a club, you should pay attention to its head design, shaft type and shaft flex. All of this put together will determine how your club “behaves”, and thus which way your game is going to go. Let’s look at each in turn:
Club head design
The club head is the most important part of the club, after all that is what makes contact with the ball! Three very specific types of head are generally available, they are generally referred to as the oversized, the midsize, and the traditional blade style head. There are heads appropriate for every level of skill from novice to expert and somewhere in between.
If you are a beginner, you may want to try an over-sized head since these are intentionally built with deep cavity-back designs to provide a bit of forgiveness if the ball isn’t hit just right. They also have a lower center of gravity which enables you to get the ball into the air easier.
Midsize heads are not as deep or wide os the oversized head, they still have a slightly over accentuated cavity-back design which gives forgiveness and a wide sweetspot.
The blade head is the true golf club with a shallow cavity which enables you to work the ball more and get it to do what you want, but it is also the least forgiving if you hit the ball wrong.
Shaft type
The two main types of shaft are steel or graphite. Steel shafts are the most durable, make a club for a heavier feel, but don’t have as many options for the shaft flex. Using clubs made with graphite shafts don’t always last as long, and may seem to light to some, however they do have more flexible during the swing that other may enjoy.
For your playing style in golf it is a good idea to go test the clubs before you purchase them.
Shaft flex
The shaft flex affects the trajectory of the ball and is related to how quickly you swing the club. Because your club will bend as you swing it, your choice of shaft – for instance, how stiff it is – will determine that your club is the best possible shape when it comes into contact with the ball.
The best golf iron for a swing over 105mph is extra stiff, 90-105mph is stiff, 80-95mph is regular, 70-85mph is senior, and for a swing less than 70mph is ladies.
You have the option of going with an instructor who will advise you on specs of club you’ll be best suited to, or you can borrow a selection of different clubs from the store on the course where you’re playing and use them to see which ones best suit your needs.
To find the best golf irons, you need to test out different syles for yourself instead of relying on figures you have found on paper.
