How To Drive Long Off The Tee

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Presented by GolfClubsHome.com and discount golf club drivers.

Would you like to learn how to drive long off the tee? It makes sense as more distance will give us shorter and easier approach shots. There are many golf swing instructional eBooks that offer to show us how to add more distance. Most of them promise, at least, an extra few yards.

These guidebooks, however, are designed for the recreational or beginner golfer. They teach you all about the golf swing; the grip, setup, backswing, downswing, and follow through. But if you are a competent golfer that is just looking for more in depth information about how to drive long, you will learn more from the distance golf experts.

Long Drivers of America

You could start by visiting the Long Drivers of America website. They are the official golf association for the Remax Long Drive Championship. These power golf swing fanatics are all about achieving maximum golf distance. If you are attracted by the idea of participating in the Re/Max World Long Drive Championship, then visit the Long Drivers of America site.

Mike Austin – A Golf Legend

Amazingly, the Worlds longest drive has stood since 1974. The golf legend, Mike Austin at the age of 64, still holds the Guinness World Record for longest drive in a tournament, 515-yards – during the U.S. National Senior Open in Las Vegas.

Austin managed that incredible drive using a 43.5 inch long steel-shafted driver with a wood-head! So clearly, the golfing equipment doesn’t have as much to do with how far you can drive the ball as the technique. However, the long drive champions nowadays like to use 2X or 3X, extra-stiff shafts that are up to 50 inches in length, and that have lofts that are as low as 5 or 6 degrees.

Learning How To Drive Long

For most of us weekend warriors, we just want to know how to drive long and to improve our golf game in general. You may have a good grip and swing technique, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you will have a good golf distance off the tee. Your golf club head speed is the major factor that you need to improve on. For every 1 mph of increased golf swing speed means a increase of about 2.5 yards of distance. Basically, if you increase your swing speed you’ll increase your distance.

There are other factors involved if you want to learn how to drive long off the tee. Golf fitness training and increased flexibility go along way to improving your golf distance, as well as your over-all golf game. Another aspect of your game that you should learn is the mental game of golf. The above golf subjects are usually disregarded by the majority of golfers, but they are very important if you want to really improve your game.

Golf Instructor

If you really want to learn how to drive long, then look for a professional golf instructor who knows what is essential for distance golf. If you can only hit drives of 200 yards, then adding only a few extra yards to your drives won’t help you that much. You need to find someone that has been at your level and who has learned how to drive 350 to 430 yards.

Learning From The Pros: Ernie Els Golf Swing

Monday, December 15th, 2008

If you want to learn about Ernie Els golf swing and golf backswing, then you are first going to have to learn who he is, why he is so important, and why it can be so beneficial to learn about the Ernie Els golf swing.

Who is Ernie Els?

Ernie Els is a two time US Open champion, and he was also a British Open winner in 2002. The reason that the Ernie Els golf swing is considered as being so tremendous is because he literally appears to put no effort at all into his golf swing, and yet it still manages to come out beautifully and professionally. The Ernie Els golf swing is truly one of a kind, in that it honestly cannot be compared to anyone else’s swing; the Ernie Els golf swing and golf grip is literally perfection.

Iron Play

This is considered as being one of the most important factors into Els’ swing overall, and it is important to understand that the clubface has to be square to the target line when it meets the ball. It also has to be traveling on the correct path, one that corresponds correctly with that of the target line. Furthermore, you have to make sure that it is traveling on the correct angle of attack as this is incredibly important to the overall swing and thus will greatly affect your swing negatively or positively, depending on how you go about it.

One good trick that you can use in order to improve your swing is to try to imagine that your spine is a central column, with your upper body rotating around it. This is truly the essence of maintaining a constant spine angle, and you certainly do not want to be wavering from side to side too much and not moving up and down too much either.

If you are looking to improve your golf short game, then Ernie Els is one golf player that you should definitely pay close attention to; he is not only a wonderful player but he is open in regards to the fact that he is always and constantly willing and wanting to improve his game, and so he really never stops. This is important in a game such as golf, because you can really never get too much experience or practice; the more time and effort you can devote to this game, the better you will be.

There are many ways to enjoy your golf game on the green. The best way to enjoy the game is to have a friend or partner around to talk to between puts. This can be extremely relaxing and beneficial to your game as it offers you an outlet for your stress and personal irks. Taking time to find the right golf buddies can be strenuous if you don’t know where to look. Luckily there are services online that will let you find the right friends to associate with.

Golf was invented to pass the time and converse between friends. It was also a sport that allowed only those of higher class to indulge in the mastery of the sport. As time progressed, the sport became famous and many people play for money nowadays. This is why many people go off to learn how to play on their own, which may be difficult for some. Having golf buddies can severely improve your game.

There are serious aspects of the game that make people very competitive. Other people just like to play with their pals to allow for some conversations that are very in depth over the course of a game. Many times a person will really enjoy their time out with friends that will keep them looking forward until their next game together. This can form lasting bonds between people that last a lifetime.

You can make golf buddies anywhere, the problem is that most individuals are either too busy to get out to bars, clubs or parties where most golfers would hang around. You can also not tell everyone apart from just looks, unless of course they were wearing golf attire. That is why Internet services are created to allow people to find others quickly and easily for things such as golf aficionados.

Many people use the Internet to find friends. With sites such as popular social networking sites that have become so popular, niche sites like golfing have opened up with the same function. To make some golf buddies so you can get out on the green and have a great time. You might even find a hot young thing that wants to spend time on the green with you to cheer you on. Anything is possible with the advent of Internet technology.

Some sites will allow for people to contact each other free of charge. Others will only allow a set number of free contacts before you have to pay. This is a way of letting you evaluate the golf buddy sits before paying to use their services.

Closing Comments

The green can be one of two things, lonely or great. You have to choose one. For those who want buddies to play with, there are options available to finding that buddy that is just right for you.

Golf Swing Teaching Aids: They Work, But Are Not a Panacea

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Presented by GolfClubsHome.com and discount golf gifts.

Look long enough, and you’ll find numerous opinions on golf swing teaching aids, and the comments–from professionals and weekend golfers alike–are all over the map. Some golfers swear by training aids, and many feel that only traditional practice is beneficial. Many teaching pros use homegrown teaching aids that cost next to nothing–reflector strips, plum lines, show boxes, hula hoops–to help golfers who are seeking to learn how to golf swing, and to give them a mental image that can help them keep the swing grooved when they’re on the links.

All Shapes and Sizes

As you can already tell, golf swing teaching aids come in lots of price ranges and varieties. There are special hinged clubs or other clublike instruments that help you get the feel of a proper–and improper–swing; there are wrist and arm braces that help you key in on proper positioning during the swing; there are computerized gadgets that can tell you about clubhead speed, club face position, and other things. You’ll even find simple gadgets like specialized grips.

The Key Ingredient

The big thing is to recognize that there is no silver bullet–there is no single golf swing teaching aid that will immediately fix your game. Realistically, there is no teaching aid that will even improve every part of your swing. Rather, each training aid will help you with a very specific aspect of your swing. But that’s okay, as specialization and focus are key to really absorbing these motions into muscle memory.

The other important thing to realize is that you must use common sense in selecting and purchasing golf swing teaching aids. The bottom line, however, is that lasting improvement will come through repetition and practice. A golf swing teaching aid can help, but it’s up to you to apply it properly to your game.

For that matter, some of the best improvements you will encounter will come from two decidedly no-tech sources: exercise and a video camera. Exercise that specifically works your core will do wonders for your swing and distance, especially over the course of a round. I’m not talking about crunches and the like, but a full core workout, e.g. using Pilates or a physioball. As for the video camera, it’s obvious how that can help your swing, but it dawns on very few golfers to actually use theirs. Put together all of these puzzle pieces, and you’re beginning to look like a contender!
