5 Steps To Energize Your Putting

There are some keys to success when you are on the putting green, and we are going to go over those. When out on the course playing golf and you want to make more putts, you must keep your putting system and your routine as simple as possible. If you ever watch what the pro’s do on TV when they are putting, you should notice that putting is the part of the game that is totally a personal thing. This is really the way that it should be.

One thing that you have to understand, is that there is really not a right or wrong way for you to have to setup or stand over the ball. For example, just look at how Sam Snead used to putt, so you can see what I mean. Try and not have any mechanical thought running through your head when you are about to putt. Your only concern should be the pace that you want the ball to roll at and how far to the left or to the right of the hole you want the ball to start at.

You have to start to think of your putting in this light. Your object when you are putting is to see how close you can get the ball to the hole. There is a good part about this method, if the ball goes in the hole, it is a bonus. Watching golf evolve over the years, there have been some very successful putters, that have had some very different styles.

That tells you that you can do whatever is comfortable for you.

Want to be a better putter? These putting tips will help you do that.

1.) One thing that you must understand, is that before you ever start your putting stroke, you must feel comfortable and be relaxed over the ball. When all of your muscles are tense, your grip pressure is too tight, you have to understand that your chances if making a successful putt are not very good. This is not what we want. So, first thing to remember is to stay relaxed.

2.) To make more putts is really not that hard. You must hit the ball in the middle of the putter face in order to make more. When this happens on occasion, you know, you felt it and you heard it. It felt good too. This must be your number one priority, which is to hit the ball in the middle of the putter face.

You have to understand this. Most putts are missed, not because you picked the wrong line or the wrong speed. It is because you did not strike the ball in the middle of the putter face. Thus not getting the ball at the right speed or line.

3.) One thing that I see people doing all the time is changing there putting style. Don’t do this. Just try and hit the ball solid on every attempt. Hitting the ball solid will keep the ball on the intended line longer and this will give you a better chance of making more putts.

4.) A main key to making more putts is your tempo. Your back and through motion. It is a main ingredient to successful putting. Your’s may be fast, or slow or maybe somewhere in between. Just try to be as consistent as possible.

5.) How many times have you looked up before you should have and you watch the ball miss the hole. What you don’t want to do is to look up to soon to see what the ball is doing. You want to stay down and through the ball, keeping that left shoulder down. Don’t PEEK. If you PEEK, you will probably watch the ball miss the hole. This is another main factor why you miss putts. Because you got a little quick in picking your head up before you should have. Keep that head down and make more putts.

What happens when you look up to soon is that you are not going to hit the ball where you want to in relation to the putter face. As mentioned earlier, you must hit the ball in the middle of the putter face. It is very natural for you to want to see where the ball is going. It is very common and even in the pro’s. They just do it less than we do. Try this to help you to keep your head down longer. After you hit the ball, count to one. This will ensure that your head does not come up early.

If you watch Anika and Tiger, they could have a 5-10 ft putt, and their heads are barely coming up when the ball is going into the hole. That should tell you something right there. Keep that head down and the rest of the body will follow by also staying down.

Follow the steps above and your putting is going to improve. It worked for me and others. Remember the most important step is that all you are trying to do is to see how close you can get the ball to the hole.

Before You Swing Any Driver

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

If you want to get better at striking the ball off the tee, there are two things that you should do before making your next swing with your driver.

dave1 Before You Swing Any Driver

1. Get a driver that fits your swing

With all the advances in golf equipment these days, I still find a lot of players who use a driver that has too low of a loft and a shaft that is too long for them to control. Through my own testing, I have found that if you hit the center of the clubface with a 45 inch long driver, you will only gain 5 yards over a 42 inch driver. The 42 inch driver maybe a few inches shorter, but it is so much easier to control off the tee than a 45 inch driver.

It’s very important that you get fitted correctly for your driver. See your local PGA Professional or one of the many club manufacturers that can custom fit their equipment to your swing.

2. Set-up correctly to the ball

It’s also extremely important to get set up correctly with your driver. What I like to do is come into the golf ball with my right side low. I want to make sure that my right shoulder is positioned lower and behind the golf ball. I step in first with my left side and then step out with my right foot.

It’s important that you have the right amount of tilt with your shoulders. Tilting your body behind the ball will help your body to turn correctly on the backswing. The amount of shoulder tilt will be different for each golfer, because of the differences in body size, arm length and type of build.

I think that a key set-up factor is that your right leg and right arm create a reversed “K” type of position in relation to your clubshaft and left arm when addressing the golf ball. This will put you into a powerful position to start your driver swing.

The way you set up to the ball is very important. If you’re not in a balanced, athletic set-up position, it makes it very difficult to drive the golf ball long and straight.

What Are The Major Golf Tournaments?

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008
by James Beckett

It is essential to learn about the big players and the big events in any sport if you want to really get to grips with the sport. After all, where better to view what you should be doing than by watching the best in the business? Let’s take a look at the biggest golf tournaments that you should be tuning into:

The almighty PGA Tour which Tiger Woods has earned a healthy 77 million dollars off! This is a collection of the finest golf events in America spread over the course of the year. They have recently changed the structure so that the big names don’t ease off the pressure towards the end of the year. For 2007 it will have 49 events in 45 weeks of which players can earn money from 48 of them.

The PGA Championship is one of the four big golf contests. It was established in 1916 and has traditionally been thrown on various golf courses across the US. Walter Hagen and Jack Nicklaus together are the record holders for most triumphs at the PGA Championship with five each.

The other 3 major championships in golf are the Open Championship, the US Open and the Masters, these are all part of the PGA Tour and all have a hefty winning prize on offer. Each is different and has different requirements, locations and prize funds. Now let’s look deeper at each one:

One odd major championship is the Masters. All the others rotate their courses around, but the Masters vehemently refuses to and has been played on the same course (Augusta National Golf Club) since 1934! I guess if it isn’t broken don’t try and fix it.

One of the most highly sought after prizes in golf (aside from the money is the distinctive green jacket that the winner of the Masters gets to wear. It is the official jacket of the club which the winner is then an honorary member of. They are supposed to give the jacket back after one year so that the club can hold onto it ready for when they play there next, but in 1962 Gary Player liked his so much he decided not to return it!

Each major seems to have their own quirks, and The quirk for the US Open is that it open to amateurs as well, and it allows men and women to play together. It doesn’t even have a lower age limit so in 2006 a 15 year old from Hawaii qualified for the tournament!

The Open Championship, a.k.a. the British Open, is a golf competition thrown at varied golf venues in the United Kingdom. It is usually organized the third week of July. The record for total triumphs at the Open Championship is six, held by Harry Vardon, whose final appearance was in 1914. The Open is the first of all the most well-known golf competitions.

Interesting Details About The Augusta National Golf Club

Friday, February 22nd, 2008
by Charlie Reece

Presented by GolfClubsHome.com

As in 1939, the national golf club has been the resort of the prestigious Masters Golf Tournament. The course is located in Florida and is one of the most known courses in the world and one of the most desired golf courses in the country. The course is located on land that used to be a nursery.

Spectacular Golf Course

In the Augusta national golf club is filled with beautiful bushes, flowers, as well as shrubs and every hole on the beautiful course has the name of a tree or a shrub that is located on the hole. In the earlier days it stood out from the rest of the golf courses due to the large number of bunkers it contained when compared to other golf courses and the width of the fairways on the course were different from the other quality golf courses.

Golf courses that need changing

Over the century several architects have made design changes to the Florida national golf club course such as placing more bunkers on the course, decreasing the contours of the greens and placing more trees on the course and creating more rough areas. The greens at the Augusta course had a long tradition of being made from Bermuda grass; however in 1981 they were changed to being made from bent grass which provides the green with a faster surface and this is the primary factor for the decrease in the contours that were placed in the greens at the course.

Fans of the Augusta national golf club are probably familiar with the big oak tree that is located on the course side of the Augusta clubhouse and is thought to be between 145 and 150 years of age. The Eisenhower tree is a loblolly pine which is situated on the 17th hole of the Augusta national golf club course.

Historians of the course claim that the tree was hit with a golf ball numerous times by President Eisenhower and so he recommend that they remove the tree form the course. The chairman of the golf course at the time did not want to have to dismiss the recommendation of President Eisenhower and so he decided the best thing to do was close down the meeting.

Ike’s Pond was named after Eisenhower who at the time was a general. He had taken a walk in the woods on the eastern portion of the Augusta national Golf Club grounds and informed the chairman of the club that he had located a great place to create a pond. The pond was built based on his recommendation. The Augusta national golf club course is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world.

Same Quality Golf Swing With Pre-owned Clubs

Friday, February 22nd, 2008
by Peter Wilson

Presented by GolfClubsHome.com

For golfers on a budget, the good news is that there are plenty of options available to find used golf equipment. You can find gently worn items ranging from golf clubs to golf carts that no longer met the needs of their former owners. Even if you are not on a set budget, there are countless ways to find quality, pre-owned golf items that are still in great condition.

Golf clubs are essential to the game and, actually, an intimate part of every game. For this reason, purchasing pre-owned clubs can be tricky, but it is possible. If you know what type of clubs you want and are patient, resale shops are a very economic approach to finding high quality clubs at a reasonable price. Now, if you are looking for left-handed golf clubs you may be surprised how easily you may still be able to find the clubs you need. Lefties get rid of clubs also, and there are fewer left-handed golfers to pick them up so resale shops really is a good place to find such unique clubs. Whether you are just frugal with your money or on a certain budget, pre-owned golf clubs is a good way to save some extra money that could be spent elsewhere.

Another fairly common purchase is gently worn golf shoes. Whether you find them at a garage sale, thrift store or used golf accessory shop, low cost yet name brand golf shoes are easy to find. Again, though, a little patience will go a long way along with an open mind.

Especially for the beginner golfer, used golf balls are a great way to save money. You can find used golf balls by the bag at thrift stores, yard sales or even golf supply shops sometimes. Rather than purchasing new balls only to be lost in the water or woods, purchasing a bag of used golf balls is a smart investment allowing the golfer to practice his or her golf swing without worrying about the loss.

You can also find bags of tees also, as well as golf towels, cleat wrench kits and ball washers all of which can be found in a resale setting. Yard sales and resale shops are the best places to find used club head covers and other golf accessories.

You can also find used golf cars and carts which is an even smarter route when it comes to these items, as manual push or pull golf carts are the pricier golf items. Opting for pre-owned golf carts is a good way to have quality equipment without spending unnecessary cash. Fortunately, finding replacements parts for motorized golf cars is much easier today with access to online shops and websites. With this in mind, even purchasing a golf car in need of a small repair or some “TLC” maintenance is not an unusually poor decision.

Of course, there are some things you will want to take into account to safe guard against spending extra money in the long run and any unnecessary grief and headaches. Most likely, though, your pre-owned, gently used golf equipment will bring you years of satisfaction and pleasure without breaking your budget.
