I Found Myself By Going Outdoors
I used to be the kind of man who would stay on the couch and read books and watch movies. This had always been what I thought people worked for, being able to stay home and relax. But one day, I caught a glimpse of myself at an angle that was not very flattering. Until then, I rarely went outside for anything. But on that day, I made my mind up I was going to take an exercise class, and the one I signed up for took place outside. I got myself some personal training, and I trained outdoors.
It was very invigorating to say the least. It felt to me like my whole head had been clogged up, and now I was a new person. I believe I needed the oxygen that I was getting to my brain. Not the re-circulated air that I had been breathing for so many years inside my house. This really changed my outlook about being outside, so I tried to find other things to do outdoors as well.
I began to take walks from my house to town and back. I thought it might be fun and beneficial to take up golfing. So I walked to the book store and bought a the best golf instruction book I could find. Soon I was teeing off at one of the many golf courses around where I live. I had found a new life for myself, and it had been there waiting all along.
I was totally transformed, in just a few weeks, not only by how I felt, but by how I looked. I was becoming lean and mean, fit and trim. There were a few of the local ladies who made nice comments on my transformation. As a single man, this gave me even more incentive to work out. I attended every class, and was full of enthusiasm. And my scores improved continuously at golf.
As the months passed, I met a woman in my exercise class who I really hit it off with. She loved the outdoors as much as I did, and we were soon walking together and spending a lot of time with each other. And within a year of our meeting, I was sporting a new rhodium plated wedding ring. And she had one to match. All this because I finally got out of the house.
Things continue to click along even now. We teach classes of our own, and have a very happy and productive life. I remember back sometimes how things were when I was a couch potato, and I am truly amazed at how much better life is now. I am grateful for the day that I acted on my feelings, and took my life outdoors.
I am a firm believer that people need to get outside more. Many of them spend all day long inside an office, only to go home and spend the rest of it in their home. They just do not get the fresh air or the exercise they need to enjoy life to its fullest. So go ahead, get outside and let your brain breathe. You may even find yourself a lifelong companion like I did. And if you already have one, and she gets a little grouchy, then just tell her you want to take it outside.
